Enya, Freddy and Khayli
Saluki Enya joined our household in 1998 aged 14 months after the deaths of Afghan Hounds Lizzie and Daisy, which left poor Barney without doggie friends.
Then after the untimely death of Millie in September 2005 in Spain, we decided to go to the local dog pound and re-home one of the many discarded hunting dogs from the area. So in the October we gave a home to 2 year old Ibizan Hound Khayli.
Then when 13 year old Afghan Hound Barney died in June 2006, we decided to re-home 8 year old Cocker Spaniel Freddy.
Enya was put to sleep at the end of June 2014. She would have been 17 the following October.
Freddy had a happy life with us for three years, until a large tumour in his chest ended his life.
Khayli is now almost 13 years old and is fortunately still with us.
I have had so much joy from my rescues, that I became secretary to the newly formed animal charity AKIRA in April 2011. I am still secretary and am proud to say that AKIRA has raised sufficient funding to build a much needed shelter in Benissa, Spain. Details can be found on the AKIRA website www.akira-animals.com or by visiting Facebook and looking for AKIRA DogSanctuary.
